Senator Durbin on Impeachment
This morning on Fox News Sunday, Democrat Senator Dick Durbin said that he wants to see an investigation into Bush’s wiretapping program, saying that impeachment could be an option if the program was found to be illegal.

What really struck me about this is that Fox News has been playing it up, saying that they were surprised that Durbin would come out and mention impeaching a wartime president, especially after Republican’s claims that Democrats would impeach Bush if they gained control of the Senate. This really leaves me confused. Durbin didn’t say that impeachment was on the table right now, he said that it was on the table if Bush was found guilty of breaking the law. What about that statement is surprising? Are the Republicans going to try and say that they wouldn’t impeach Bush if this NSA program was found to be illegal?

I’m sorry, but I don’t want Republicans running this country if they aren’t going to hold Bush responsible when he breaks the law. I can’t even imagine how they are going to spin this one. They probably will forget to mention that Durbin said this was an option if Bush was found to break the law. I can’t see them getting around it any other way. Surely they don’t think that Americans will accept Bush not receiving any punishment if he has been a part of illegal activities.
