of Delaware, who is a strong candidate for a 2008 presidency run, said this morning on NBC’s “Meet the Press”
that if Iraq doesn’t resolve its conflict, we should pull our troops by summer
"We can't want peace in Iraq more than the Iraqis want it," Biden said on NBC's "Meet the Press." "We can't want it more than they want it. And if they don't step up to the ball, we're going to be gone."
I’ve always had respect for Biden, and it’s nice to see him taking actions that once again show why he is worthy of this respect. Contrary to Republican belief, we cannot just sit in Iraq forever, while they fight amongst themselves. Our goal was to free them and give them their own government. If they do not want this, then why are we still there? Ultimately, it is up to them to work this out. We are not their parents.
Republicans, though they say they agree somewhat, are still refusing to set a timetable, worried about how we would look to others if we were to pull out now. To me, Republicans sound like a bunch of ignorant men, trying to see who can piss the farthest. I do not think that we would look weak to the enemy if we pulled out. We did what we were sent there to do, and if the Iraqi government cannot get their shit together, why is it smart to stay there until they do? At some point, we must put the ball in their court, and it seems that the Democrats are the only ones who are willing to do this. biden Iraq troop withdrawal
